Tuotantoverstaan sisäisen logistiikan analysointi ja kehittäminen

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and develop the internal logistics of a company's machinery and powder coating department. A literary study on the practices in the field of internal logistics has been made, the focus being on practices and procedures which support the existing process, or can be implemented cost-effectively.

In this thesis, there was an analysis of the department's processes, which included information flow, material flow, warehousing and layout in use. Qualitative methods used were interviews of the personnel and observation of the process.

Quantitative methods were carried out with help of the enterprise resource planning system and warehouse management system and the information they produce. In addition, the process descriptions and a layout drawing were created to help the analysis.

Based on the analysis, problem areas found in the process have been fixed. The shop-floor's layout has been renewed and implemented, which has led to increased usage of the area dedicated for department. The markings of products at the shop-floor inventory have been renewed, which has led to decreased inventory errors and higher efficiency of logistics personnel. In the automated warehouse, several improvements have been made for the set-up of the automatically guided vehicles, which has resulted in a decreased number of collisions in the warehouse between pallets, in addition, a standardized work schedule has been created for the logistics personnel, which has resulted in an increased insight into the resources at hand.

Since development of the internal logistics requires a long-term commitment and crossing the interfaces of various departments, this work's time window is insufficient. Therefore the focus of this work is on the literature study and on the recommendations for future areas for development.
